With #NAIDOC2022 approaching fast, the value of being Culturally Responsive, so as to support true Cultural Safety in 21st-century Australia, is on everyone's mind. It is something Kultchafi Services is committed to, and as we celebrate #NAIDOCWeek once again we are proud to announce that we have just launched a new Cultural Responsiveness Training for Disability Services program which is tailored to the specific needs of this important sector.
Today’s successful NDIS Service Providers need to understand:
- The impacts of Lateral Violence on Indigenous peoples in 21st-century Australia.
- Cultural Nuances that lead to lack of engagement, or even conflict, with Indigenous peoples.
- The differences in World Views of Indigenous and non-Indigenous peoples that cause communication barriers in service delivery.
- Why Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander clients may choose not to identify as Indigenous.
Through Kultchafi, we provide NDIS Service Providers with a multi-accredited and ground-breaking online training package that directly addresses these 21st-century issues. It will challenge your perceptions, draw on your own lived experiences and provide deep insights from the Voices of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Elders and Traditional Owners.
About Kultchafi Services
Kultchafi is an Aboriginal organisation co-founded by Ara 'Julga' Harathunian, who was CEO of Indigenous Wellbeing Centre (IWC) for 17 years, and Aunty Cheri Yinga Yavu-Kama-Harathunian (now deceased), a greatly respected Aboriginal Elder known for her integrity and unflagging commitment to Reconciliation in Action.
IWC was the only Aboriginal organisation in Australia to have won and delivered an #NDIS Local Area Coordinator contract, working in partnership with the NDIA since 2017, and the learnings from that frontline experience of the barriers faced in supporting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples into the #choiceandcontrol of the NDIS are shared with participants.
This is ground-breaking and unique training offered online as self-paced learning.
